NEDA
Economic Development Professional (EDP)
Credential
Statement of
Purpose
As an association dedicated to the
advancement of professionalism in the field
of economic development, the Northeastern
Economic Developers Association (NEDA)
encourages its members to maintain the
highest professional skills and to use those
skills to improve the economy of the
Northeastern United States and the economic
development profession. The Economic
Development Professional (EDP) designation
recognizes significant professional
education and/or experience in the field of
economic development or closely related
disciplines.
Eligibility
Requirements

requirements)
To be eligible for the EDP designation, an
applicant must:
- Be currently
employed in the field of economic
development or a closely related field
(such as commercial and industrial real
estate or other fields recognized by
NEDA’s Designation Committee)
- Have a minimum
of 3 years experience in a paid position
in the field of economic development or
a closely related field
- Submit an
application form and documentation
demonstrating completion of coursework
and/or experience meeting the minimum
requirements for award of the EDP
designation, and the application fee of
$100 (NEDA Members) or $125
(Non-Members)
- Submit one or
more letters of endorsement
Minimum Educational
Requirements for Initial Recognition
Attaining the EDP designation requires
completion of coursework in the area of Core
Knowledge and educational or substitute
experience for Advanced Knowledge.

Core Knowledge
Applicants for the EDP designation can
demonstrate they meet minimum Core
Knowledge requirements by attending many
economic development programs as
detailed in the program materials.
Experience may not be substituted for
completion of acceptable coursework
meeting the Core Knowledge requirement.

Advanced Knowledge
In addition to meeting the Core
Knowledge requirement above, an
applicant for the EDP designation must
demonstrate advanced, continuing
education or comparable experience
within the past five (5) years as
detailed in the program materials.

Letters of
Endorsement
An application for initial recognition
as an EDP must be accompanied by 1 or
more letters of endorsement attesting to
the professional competence of the
applicant. as see program materials.
Renewal
Requirements
Initial designation as an EDP shall be good
for a three (3) year period. In order to
renew an EDP designation, accumulate a
minimum of six (6) renewal points based on
continuing education, contributions or
service to the profession, participation in
professional affairs, or other activities
submitted to and accepted by the Designation
Committee - see details. The renewal fee for
an additional three years will be $50/$65
(Member/Non-Member).
